Hoard's vision would shape the nation's young dairy industry in ways he never could have imagined in 1899. Today, we use 21st century technology to produce milk on the same land and with the same passion Hoard carried into his barn 120 years ago – a barn that still stands to this day.
On his farm and through the pages of his magazine, Hoard became a modern apostle of the dairy cow and of the prosperous, soil-conserving form of agriculture dairy farming represented. He would live to be honored nationally and internationally and to be cited as the "Father of American Dairying." Generations after his passing, his profound wisdom continues to be shared in today's Hoard's Dairyman magazine.

In 1885, W.D. Hoard – then the editor of a small newspaper in Jefferson County, Wisconsin – launched Hoard's Dairyman magazine. To this day, the publication helps dairy farmers across the country serve Americans dairy products of the highest quality.
W.D. Hoard was a champion of the dairy cow, and soon after launching his magazine, he established the Hoard's Dairyman Farm just minutes from his publishing office. The Guernsey breed, with its rich, nutritious milk, would become the farm's hallmark. This farm still operates today, with most of the cows' family trees extending all the way back to W.D. Hoard's original herd.

Hoard’s Dairyman Farm Creamery cheese is crafted with milk from one of the most storied dairy herds in the country. It is the oldest continuously registered Guernsey herd in North America and through the decades has been a consistent award winner for breed excellence and quality milk production.
